Monumental Africa: A Visual Exploration of the Landmarks and Natural Wonders
Table of Contents
ToggleIntroduction
Africa is a continent of unparalleled natural beauty and diversity. The land stretches across the equator, so you’ll experience every type of climate there is. You can travel through deserts and savannas to reach glaciers and rainforests. There are thousands of plant species in Africa, and over 2 million animals (including more than 1 million different insects) have been discovered in its forests alone! There’s also plenty to see above ground; the continent has some of the world’s most famous landmarks like Table Mountain and Victoria Falls. Here are some of my favorites:
Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is a waterfall on the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, as well as being an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The falls are about a kilometre wide and 100 metres high, making them one of Africa’s largest waterfalls by volume (about 10 million cubic metres per minute). The height difference between low and high tide can be up to 40m!
The Great Rift Valley
The Great Rift Valley is the longest valley in the world. It runs from Northern Syria to Mozambique, crossing through Kenya and Tanzania, and it covers more than 6,000 km of land. The valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its unique biodiversity–it’s home to over 20{a6d4e250f4dbd7c38290d51a301669b0b15c2bd58d8474132f85a8137f152abc} of all mammal species in Africa!
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park is the largest wildlife reserve in Africa. It’s located in northern Tanzania, just south of the equator.
The Serengeti is home to some of the most incredible sights on Earth: an annual migration that sees millions of wildebeest and zebras trekking across its plains every year. The animals are so plentiful that it’s not uncommon for tourists to see herds numbering more than 1 million at once!
Mount Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest point in Africa and one of the Seven Summits. It’s also one of the easiest mountains to climb, making it an ideal destination for those looking to reach their first summit.
The best time to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro is during its dry season (November – March), when daytime temperatures are milder and there’s less chance of rain or snowfall. There are three routes up: Machame, Marangu and Rongai; each has its own pros and cons but all lead to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet).
Okavango Delta
The Okavango Delta is a large, shallow, braided river delta in Botswana. It is the world’s largest inland delta and home to a wide variety of animals, including elephants, hippos, lions and leopards.
The Okavango River flows into Lake Ngami then continues southward toward the Zambezi River which forms part of the border between Botswana and Namibia.
Travel Africa. See the continent’s landmarks and natural wonders.
Africa is a beautiful continent, with many places to visit. Africa has landmarks and natural wonders that are worth exploring. Traveling to Africa is an amazing experience!
When you travel around the world, you will see many different cultures, landscapes and people. In this book we will explore some of the most famous landmarks in Africa including:
- The Great Pyramid of Giza
- Victoria Falls
- Kilimanjaro Mountain
There are also many other places where you can experience nature at its best such as beaches with white sand or jungles full of animals like lions or monkeys.
Conclusion
There’s so much to see in Africa, and it’s a shame that many people don’t get the opportunity to travel there. If you do have an opportunity to visit, make sure you take it!
